SMART
SMART by GISS is a complete FlyAway-class VSAT system, offering a wide range of configurations tailored to individual user needs. In basic version, it features a motorized antenna with an aperture ranging from 1.5 m to 2.4 m. Supplied by ACU (Antenna Control Unit), allows full system management from the antenna's position and automatic terminal pointing to the selected signal in any conditions, without the need for base leveling.
The terminal operates in one of five bands: C, X, Low-Ku, Ku and Ka. Band change is tool-free and involves just swapping the antenna feed arm, which integrates all necessary equipment such as transmitters, receivers, and filters.
The system is delivered in one of the chosen configurations, complete with cabling and power systems, packed in a dedicated set of transport cases.
One terminal – unlimited configurations
SMART by GISS may be acquired in one of three equipment configurations:
Classic IDU – ODU configuration, based on copper connections between the ODU (Outdoor Unit) and IDU (Indoor Unit) network infrastructure, the terminal can be equipped with either a manual or motorized antenna. Depending on selected antenna, the terminal is fitted with an ACU antenna controller, offering manual positioning support or automatic pointing to the selected signal - modem, satellite beacon or DVB-S.
IDU – ODU configuration with fiber optic interconnection. In this configuration, traditional copper coax cables are replaced by a single reel of single-mode fiber optic cable expanding the connection over kilometers. As in the classic setup, depending on the chosen antenna (manual or motorized), the terminal is equipped with an ACU antenna controller. This offers either manual positioning support or automatic pointing to the selected signal (modem, satellite beacon or DVB-S). Additionally, the antenna controller also monitors the status of the optical converters.
No-IDU configuration, in which the modem section commonly located in the IDU is replaced by an external SMART No-IDU modem module installed directly on the antenna. This design eliminates the need for cable connections entirely. When connection to a distant network segment is needed, it may be reduced to a single fiber optic reel. In this configuration, the terminal can be equipped with either a manual or motorized antenna, and features an ACU antenna controller that offers manual positioning support or automatic pointing to the selected signal (modem, satellite beacon or DVB-S).
